Built on a hilltop from which it overlooks the Cardener basin.

The geographical location of the castle is due to the necessity to defend the access to the salt mine and the excellent views over the Cardener valley. Cardona castle was the home of the local aristocracy from the 11th until the end of the 15th century. It is equally divided between the stately houses and the Sant Vicenç church enclosure. Noteworthy are the Minyona tower, Pati Ducal, its defensive fortifications and the impressive views over the Salina valley.
