The Vilar Rural in Cardona is immersed in the tranquil Cardener valley.
An expanse of forest, cultivated fields, deep valleys and watchtowers.
A hidden paradise from mainstream tourism.
A culture that leaves its mark
The nearby villages of the Vilar Rural are of great cultural interest, both for their heritage and folklore. Guests can enjoy a visit to the monastery of Sant Benet de Bages, an ancient Benedictine abbey which has been recently restored, or the medieval Cardona castle. They can take part in renowned local fairs such as the Festa dels Traginers in Balsareny, the Patum in Berga and the Trabucaires in Solsona.
The local culture is best represented by the local cuisine. Popular recipes from the heart of the region using typical local produce, such as sausage/salami etc. Not to forget the excellent local wine (Denominació del Pla de Bages)
The Salt, a natural heritage of Cardona
The Vall Salina valley, close to Cardona is considered a nature reserve area in Catalonia. Here can be found the amazing salt mountain, created naturally by a geological phenomenon and growing naturally vertically.
Man has contributed to this spectacular area and has been mining here since the Neolithic era, over 6.000 years ago.
